Live prototypes are available to be tested and reviewed.

WhereScapes Live Prototyping capabilities enable the data warehouse design team to avoid the single most common source of low user confidence premature target schema hardening. WhereScape RED allows designers to iterate the target schema design once, a dozen times, or a hundred times within days testing against business analysts expectations and needs, and IT technical requirements and goals.

FAQ ANSWERS - Can I change the target schema once I’ve populated it?

Yes. Without caveat or exception.

FAQ ANSWERS - Can I add more sources after I have designed a schema?

Yes. Without caveat or exception.

FAQ ANSWERS - Can I revert to an earlier version of the target schema?

Yes. All WhereScape RED metadata is versioned and time-stamped, and its lineage maintained in the RED Repository. You can revert to earlier design versions at any point in time.

FAQ ANSWERS - Is business analyst involvement required?

No. WhereScape strongly recommends that design teams include business analysts and end-user representatives to increase user confidence and buy-in to the finished product. Traditional “closed door” schema design processes – including waterfall-style schema design processes – are fully supported by WhereScape RED.

FAQ ANSWERS - What about slowly-changing dimensions?

WhereScape RED includes full support for all Kimball dimension types.

FAQ ANSWERS - Does the target schema have to be dimensional?

No. Although star and snow flake dimensional schema are commonly the target in data warehousing environments, WhereScape RED provides full support for non-dimensional schema including normal form schema.
