STAGE & TRANSFORM

Iteratively transform, split, merge and aggregate source data sets as the target data warehouse schema design progresses.

As the design team experiments with possible effective data warehouse designs, WhereScape RED automatically moves, stages and transforms source system data to match the current target schema design.   This allows the design team to see real and meaningful data in the target schema, and make changes on the fly in response to business analyst input.

FAQ ANSWERS - What kinds of transformations does WhereScape RED support?

Any transformation that can be:

 (a) expressed in the DML/SQL dialect of the WhereScape RED Repository (Oracle, SQLServer or Teradata )

or

(b) effected by an external program on the WhereScape RED Repository platform.

FAQ ANSWERS - What kinds of staging tables does WhereScape RED support?

WhereScape RED manages data manipulation to the target schema through: stage tables within a work area of the repository; from the raw load sets moved over from the source system; and through merge and transform tables. WhereScape RED also provides complete data lineage metadata (track-back / forward) and diagramming facilities to allow the design team to examine the flow of data among those tables right back to the source system(s).

FAQ ANSWERS - Is there any limit to the size or complexity of the staging and transformation tables?

No.  WhereScape RED imposes no limits on the size or complexity of the staging and transformation tables in the RED Repository. The only limits are those imposed by the underlying database platform.

FAQ ANSWERS - Is there any limit to the complexity of the data transformation / manipulation that I can implement?

No.  WhereScape RED provides a framework that allows complex transformations to be broken down into smaller steps and provides the ability to easily manage complex data flows and work flows.
